14 Dec Sophia and Liam’s Black Tie Church Wedding

Sophia & Liam’s Black Tie Church Wedding
At Thirsk Lodge Barns you can choose to have your ceremony on site in our beautiful Main Barn, or arrive from Church in style like Sophia and Liam.
We love a good church wedding and their stunning black tie day was no exception!
First things first, let’s find out how they met…
We both attended the same secondary school but were properly introduced at the age of 17 through friends. Liam proposed a few years later at Christmas time during a holiday in the Lakes – it was a very magical moment!
Our first date was in Thirsk which is why Thirsk Lodge Barns is such a special location for us – not to mention what a beautiful venue it is. The courtyard is our favourite spot and takes us back to our favourite place, Italy.
Our wedding date was our 10 year anniversary as a couple, so we were very happy when we were able to mark the occasion with our wedding!
Sophia and Liam booked their wedding with just over one year to go, which passed much more quickly than they initially thought it might.
Letty and the team were exceptional from start to finish. Thank you for making our day run smoothly and always being on hand with any queries/last minute requests throughout the planning process.
As a couple that enjoy hosting family meals and dining out, food was a big focus on Sophia and Liam’s wedding day! They chose Henny’s Kitchen from our list of recommended suppliers and they were so glad they did.
We were extremely lucky to have Henny’s Kitchen as our supplier. Henny delivered our menu ideas to an exceptional standard and we received so many compliments about the food – we would highly recommend Henny and her team to future couples.

In another nod towards their love of Italy, Sophia and Liam hired a vintage ice cream trike for their guests to enjoy during their Drinks Reception; complete with monogrammed wafers!
We love the personal touches couples add to their day, it really is the small things that make all the difference and often end up being the things you and your guests remember too!
Creating a memorial table for both Grandparents who sadly passed away in the year leading up to the wedding. It was such a touching moment to see our families appreciate the thought and have both grandparents there with us in memory.
Naming our tables after our two pups, Poppy and Trixie! They’re such a big part of our life and we just couldn’t have the day without them there in some form!

When asked what their advice for upcoming couples would be, Sophia and Liam say that they would encourage planning a few minutes alone together to really take everything in as the day passes so quickly. They certainly managed to do to that in style by hiring a vintage Jaguar, the journey from church became their favourite moment of the day! (whilst also giving them some absolutely gorgeous photos!)
We hired a classic car which Liam drove from the Church to Thirsk Lodge Barns – this was a really special journey for us because we were able to take in the excitement of the day and spend some time together as a newly married couple before greeting our guests at the venue.
We think you’ll all agree this wedding was simply stunning, we will leave you with a few words of wisdom from Sophia and Liam for future couples…
Enjoy every moment – the day is over in a flash and we wish we could re-live it over and over again! - S & L
