How to make your Wedding Day run smoothly

The biggest compliment we receive from couples and guests is how smoothly wedding days run at Thirsk Lodge Barns. Our main objective is to give our couples stress free wedding days where they do not have to worry about timings, jobs such as lighting candles or who needs to hand out confetti.

So, how can you ensure your wedding day runs smoothly?

TIMING IS EVERYTHING

Timing is the area where couples planning their weddings usually struggle the most.

At Thirsk Lodge Barns our team of experienced Wedding Coordinators can help create a timeline that best suits you and your wedding day.

Most couples book their ceremonies between midday and 2pm, which leaves plenty of time for the rest of the day’s events to flow naturally. It’s true when people say that your wedding day will go super quickly, so why rush it?!

Top tip – Brides, be ready to put your dress on an hour before you need to leave for your ceremony. The last hour flies by and this will leave enough time for photographs with your bridal party and a moment to gather your thoughts!

Don’t forget, if you are having registrars conduct your ceremony then you will need to arrive 15 minutes prior to the ceremony so they can ask you a few questions. As registrars usually have multiple ceremonies in a day it is important not to be late!

Printing an ‘Order of the day’ sign can really help keep things on track as guests know where they are expected to be at certain times! We have three easels for our couples to use so you can have a Welcome sign, Order of the Day and Seating Plan, or combine your Welcome and Order of the Day signs into one like the image above.

RESERVED CEREMONY SEATING

Often forgotten, this simple tip will ensure the start of your ceremony is as stress free as possible and you don’t end up with a flustered Groom. Having printed ‘reserved’ signs to place on chairs ensures your nearest and dearest will be guaranteed front row seats, and spaces will be left for your bridal party. Bonus points for printing them with each persons name on!

CONFETTI

We LOVE a good confetti shot, if you do too then make sure you give your confetti to your Wedding Coordinator the day before so we can get it ready for the end of your ceremony. As guests file out of the ceremony we will ensure they all grab a handful and help your photographer line everyone up in the Courtyard! Why not hand a few guests confetti canons to really get that WOW photo?

Wet weather plan – Don’t worry, if the weather isn’t looking good on the morning of your wedding, we will plan for your guests to throw confetti as you make your way back down the aisle at the end of your Ceremony. If you have individual packets of confetti these can be placed on guests seats, or loose confetti in a basket can be taken down the aisle for guests to grab a handful during the signing of the register.

SPEECHES

Traditionally speeches follow the meal however if you or your speech givers are nervous then doing them before the meal may be the way to go! Give each person a time limit and let the caterers know how long this will be so they can plan when to serve your first course.

Providing a glass of fizz for your guests to toast with keeps them sat at their table and avoids them wandering off to the bar!

CHOOSING SUPPLIERS

It can be hard looking for suppliers to trust with your big day, which is why we have a list of recommendations that we have worked with before. These suppliers all know the venue and how we work, so booking them for your wedding is a great way to reduce some of the stress of planning.

If you have other suppliers in mind then we are more than happy to work with them, we do advise that they come and visit us before your wedding date to familiarise themselves with the venue.

Make sure to let our coordinators know the contact details for your suppliers so we can liaise with them on the day if needed!
